The DTC is available for people who have a severe and prolonged impairment. The impairment must be expected to last for at least one year and be present all the time (or at least 90% of the time). A doctor must complete form T2201 and then it must be approved by Canada Revenue Agency.
You can claim this credit for yourself, your spouse, or your dependent. You may qualify for this credit and have never claimed it. CRA allows you to adjust your returns for the past 10 years. Impairments that qualify for the credit could be vision, speaking, hearing, walking, lacking mental functions necessary for everyday life, and more.
